C1 — 9-dars: Idiomlar va ko'chma til (figurative language — IELTS 9 nozikligi)

C1 — ILG'OR · 9-dars · (kengaytirilgan chuqurlik) · IELTS band 9 — idiomatic language

1. Dars nomi, maqsad va motivatsiya

Idiom — so'zlarning so'zma-so'z ma'nosidan boshqa, qotib qolgan ma'noni beruvchi ibora: "a piece of cake" (tort bo'lagi emas — "juda oson"), "break the ice" (muzni sindirish emas — "vaziyatni yumshatmoq"), "once in a blue moon" (ko'k oyda emas — "juda kamdan-kam"). Idiomlar — tilning madaniy yuragi: native har kuni ularni ishlatadi, va ularsiz ingliz tili "kitobiy" eshitiladi.

IELTS band 9 da idiom — ikki tomonlama qurol. Lexical Resource band 9 va Speaking band 7+ deskriptori: "uses idiomatic language naturally and accurately". Ya'ni idiom band ko'taradi — LEKIN faqat tabiiy va to'g'ri ishlatilsa. Aks holda (majburan tiqilgan, noo'rin, buzilgan idiom) — band tushiradi ("unnatural", "inaccuracy"). Shuning uchun bu darsning eng muhim qismi — qachon ishlatish va qachon YO'Q.

Sizning maqsadingiz — IELTS 9 va native daraja — uchun idiom hal qiluvchi, lekin mohirona: 1-2 ta mos, tabiiy idiom ("it cost an arm and a leg", "we see eye to eye") > 5 ta majburan tiqilgan. Sifat va tabiiylik — miqdordan muhim.

ASOSIY tushuncha — idiom = "ma'noning yashirin qulfi". Idiomda so'zlar alohida ma'noni bermaydi — butun ibora bitta yashirin ma'noni beradi:

Idiom So'zma-so'z Haqiqiy ma'no
spill the beans loviyani to'kmoq sirni oshkor qilmoq
hit the sack qopni urmoq uxlashga yotmoq
cost an arm and a leg qo'l va oyoq turadi juda qimmat
the ball is in your court to'p sizning maydoningizda endi sizning navbatingiz

Idiomni qismlarga bo'lib tushunib bo'lmaydi — butun blok bitta ma'no. Shuning uchun ularni butun ibora sifatida yodlash shart.

O'xshatish — "madaniy parol". Idiom — jamiyatning "yashirin paroli". Uni biladigan — "ichki odam" (insider), bilmaydigan — "chet ellik". "Break a leg!" (omad tilash) ni so'zma-so'z tushungan odam — chet ellik; haqiqiy ma'nosini bilgan — "o'ziniki". Idiomni to'g'ri ishlatish — examiner/native'ga "men bu tilning ichidaman" degan signal. Lekin noto'g'ri parol — darhol "begona"ligingizni ochadi.

Til-fakti: ingliz tilida ~25,000 idiom bor — lekin kundalik nutqda ~bir necha yuztasi faol. Ko'pchiligi og'zaki/norasmiy (informal) — shuning uchun IELTS Speakingda kuchli, lekin Academic Writingda ehtiyot (rasmiy esseda "the government is in hot water" — noo'rin). Idiomlarning ko'pi metaforadan kelib chiqqan (tana, hayvon, dengiz, sport, ovqat) — bu madaniy tarix. Ko'p idiom o'zbekchada boshqa obraz bilan beriladi ("it's raining cats and dogs" = "chelaklab quyyapti") — shuning uchun so'zma-so'z tarjima qilib bo'lmaydi (L1 transfer xatosi).

2. Avvalgi darslardan takror (spiral)

  • C1-8 (kollokatsiya): idiomatik kollokatsiya (take its toll, bear fruit). Bugun to'liq idiomlar.
  • C1-7 (idiom kuchaytirish): cost a fortune, second to none. Bugun mavzuli + chuqur.
  • B2-54 (register): idiom asosan norasmiy — registerga moslang.
  • LUGAT 36 (idiomlar to'plami): mavzuli idiomlar banki.
  • Tez mashq: "a piece of cake" = ? (juda oson). "break the ice" = ? (vaziyatni yumshatmoq). "once in a blue moon" = ? (kamdan-kam).

bite your tongue (gapni tiymoq) · keep your chin up (ruhdan tushmaslik)

3.4. Metafora va ko'chma til — idiom zaminida

Ko'p idiom kontseptual metaforadan keladi (tushuncha = boshqa tushuncha orqali):

text
TIME IS MONEY: spend/save/waste time · invest time · time is running out
ARGUMENT IS WAR: defend a position · attack an idea · win/lose an argument · shoot down
LIFE IS A JOURNEY: at a crossroads · go separate ways · a long road ahead · milestone
IDEAS ARE FOOD: food for thought · half-baked idea · digest information · a meaty topic

Bu metaforalarni tushunsangiz, o'nlab iborani bog'lab o'rganasiz. "Your idea is half-baked" (yetishmagan) — IDEAS ARE FOOD metaforasi. Metafora — idiomlarning "yashirin mantiq"i.

3.5. Register va idiom — qachon YO'Q (eng muhim!)

text
IDIOM ISHLATING: IDIOM ISHLATMANG:
IELTS Speaking (Part 1,2,3) IELTS Academic Writing Task 1 (data — rasmiy)
norasmiy email/suhbat rasmiy hisobot, ilmiy maqola
Writing Task 2 (1-2, ehtiyot bilan) juridik/texnik hujjat
do'st bilan muloqot boshliqqa birinchi rasmiy xat

Eng katta xato: idiomni noo'rin registrda ishlatish. "This essay will spill the beans on pollution" (akademik esseda kulgili). Akademik Writing kollokatsiya (C1-8) afzal; idiom Speaking. Registerni his qilish — band 9 belgisi.

4. Native nozikliklari va qo'shimcha qoidalar

  • Idiomni BUZMANG (aniqlik): idiom qat'iy — so'z almashtirsangiz xato: "a piece of cake" "a slice of cake" ; "once in a blue moon" "once in a blue sky" ; "the ball is in your court" "...in your field" . Idiom — yodlangan blok, "ijod" qilmang.
  • Idiomni TABIIY tiqing (majburlamang): idiomni gapga mos kelganda ishlating, "ko'rsatish uchun" emas. "It was raining cats and dogs and I felt over the moon and it cost an arm and a leg" (bir gapda 3 ta — sun'iy). Bittasi, o'z joyida — kifoya.
  • Idiom + grammatika moslashadi: idiom gapga grammatik qo'shiladi: "He kicked the bucket" / "She's pulling your leg" / "We saw eye to eye". Zamon, shaxs o'zgaradi (idiom "muzlagan" emas — fe'l moslashadi).
  • Madaniy xato — o'zbekcha idiomni tarjima qilmang: "yuragim tushdi" "my heart fell" "my heart sank" / "I got cold feet". Har tilning idiomi o'ziga xos — inglizcha muqobilini o'rganing, tarjima qilmang.
  • Dead vs live metafora: ba'zi metaforalar shu qadar oddiyki, sezilmaydi ("the leg of the table", "time flies", "grasp an idea") — bular xavfsiz, har joyda. "Jonli" idiom (spill the beans) — register sezgir.
  • Eskirgan/klishe idiom: ba'zi idiomlar eskirgan yoki haddan klishe ("at the end of the day", "think outside the box") — native'lar ba'zan ulardan charchagan. Mo''tadil ishlating.
  • Idiomni "yarmini aytish" (allusion): native ko'pincha mashhur idiom yoki maqolning faqat boshini aytadi, qolganini nazarda tutadi — tinglovchi davomini biladi: "Well, when in Rome..." (…do as the Romans do), "A bird in the hand..." (…is worth two in the bush), "Speak of the devil!". Bu "ichki odam" (insider) signali — kuchli tabiiylik. IELTS'da faqat idiom to'liq mashhur bo'lsa qiling; noaniq iborani yarim aytish tushunmovchilik tug'diradi.
  • Jonli idiomni "yumshatish" (hedging): obrazli/jonli idiomni native ba'zan so to speak, as it were, if you like, sort of bilan yumshatadi — "men buni ko'chma ma'noda aytyapman" degan signal: "He'd thrown in the towel, so to speak." Bu ortiqcha ishonchli yoki klishe eshitilmaslikka, ohangni kamtar tutishga yordam beradi (C2 nozikligi). Ayniqsa yangi/g'ayrioddiy metafora yasaganda foydali.

5. Ko'p misollar — kontekstda (IELTS Speaking)

text
ISH: "Starting out, I had to learn the ropes, but now I've climbed the ladder."
"Our manager always encourages us to think outside the box."
PUL: "My new flat cost an arm and a leg, so I'm tightening my belt this year."
"Honestly, that price is a rip-off — but the laptop was a real steal."
VAQT: "I finished the report in the nick of time, working against the clock."
MUNOSABAT: "My colleague and I see eye to eye on most things — we hit it off instantly."
QIYINCHILIK:"Learning Japanese was a tough nut to crack, but giving up wasn't an option."
"Losing the file was the last straw after a terrible week."
HIS: "When I passed the exam, I was over the moon."
"Before the interview, I had butterflies in my stomach."

6. Holat/case yechimlari

1. "Bu juda oson edi" (Speaking) — idiomatik.

  • It was a piece of cake / a walk in the park. (band 9 idiomatik).

2. "a slice of cake" — nima xato?

  • Idiom buzilgan a piece of cake (qat'iy, almashtirib bo'lmaydi).

3. Akademik esse: "Hukumat bu masalada qiyin ahvolda" — idiom mosmi?

  • Akademik Writing idiom YO'Q. The government faces a serious challenge. (rasmiy kollokatsiya, "in hot water" emas).

4. "Yuragim tushdi" — inglizcha qanday?

  • My heart sank. (so'zma-so'z "fell" emas — inglizcha idiom).

5. Speaking: "Imtihondan oldin juda hayajonlandim."

  • I had butterflies in my stomach before the exam. (tabiiy, his idiomi).

6. Bir gapda 3 idiom tiqilgan — tuzating.

  • Bittasini qoldiring, o'z joyida: "The project was a tough nut to crack, but we got there in the end." (1 ta, tabiiy).

7. Kengaytirilgan lug'at + idiom banki (IELTS 9 — mavzuli)

Idiom Ma'no Mavzu/qo'llanish
a piece of cake / a walk in the park juda oson Speaking
cost an arm and a leg juda qimmat pul/sayohat
go the extra mile qo'shimcha harakat qilmoq ish/ta'lim
think outside the box ijodiy fikrlamoq ish
see eye to eye (with) bir fikrda bo'lmoq munosabat
break the ice vaziyatni yumshatmoq muloqot
a steep learning curve qiyin o'rganish jarayoni ish/ta'lim
in the nick of time eng so'nggi daqiqada vaqt
a blessing in disguise yashirin ne'mat hayot
the tip of the iceberg muammoning kichik qismi muammo
once in a blue moon juda kamdan-kam chastota
get the hang of it uddasidan chiqmoq o'rganish
food for thought o'ylash uchun mavzu fikr
a double-edged sword ikki tomonlama (foyda+zarar) bahs (Writing!)
strike a chord hamohanglik topmoq ta'sir

Tayyor iboralar (C1 — Speaking band 9, tabiiy):

  • To cut a long story short, ...Qisqasi, ...
  • At the end of the day, ...Pirovardida, ... (mo''tadil ishlating)
  • It's a bit of a grey area.Bu biroz noaniq masala.
  • That's easier said than done.Aytish oson, qilish qiyin.

Native siri (IELTS 9): ba'zi idiomlar akademik Writing Task 2 da ham xavfsiz, chunki ular mavhum/neytral: "a double-edged sword" (ikki tomonlama), "a vicious circle" (yomon doira), "the tip of the iceberg", "strike a balance". Bular fikr ifodalaydi, og'zaki "slang" emas. Lekin "cost an arm and a leg", "hit the sack" — faqat Speaking. Farqni his qilish: idiom mavhum/rasmiyroq bo'lsa Writing'da OK; jonli/og'zaki bo'lsa faqat Speaking.

8. Dialog (idiom — IELTS Speaking band 9, tabiiy)

Examiner: Tell me about a difficult skill you learned. Candidate: Well, learning to code was a tough nut to crack, I have to admit. At first I felt like a fish out of water — everyone else seemed miles ahead. There was a steep learning curve, and more than once I was tempted to throw in the towel. Examiner: What kept you going? Candidate: Honestly, stubbornness! I decided to go the extra mile — practising around the clock. Bit by bit, I started to get the hang of it. Looking back, hitting that wall early was a blessing in disguise; it taught me to think outside the box. Examiner: And now? Candidate: Now coding is second nature — almost a piece of cake for everyday tasks. At the end of the day, the struggle was worth its weight in gold. I'd say persistence is what really paid off.

Tahlil: a tough nut to crack, like a fish out of water, a steep learning curve, throw in the towel, go the extra mile, around the clock, get the hang of it, a blessing in disguise, think outside the box, second nature, a piece of cake, at the end of the day, worth its weight in gold, paid off14 idiom, lekin tabiiy taqsimlangan (har gapga 1-2, majburlanmagan). Bu — IELTS Speaking band 9 "idiomatic language naturally and accurately".

9. O'qish — graded matn (C1 — idiom/metaforaga oid, IELTS)

A double-edged sword

Idioms are, for the language learner, something of a double-edged sword. Used well, they are worth their weight in gold: a single, well-chosen phrase can make one's English sound effortless, natural, and genuinely fluent. Used badly, however, they can backfire spectacularly — turning what should be a strength into a glaring weakness.

The danger lies in two extremes. Some learners, eager to show off, cram idioms into every sentence until their speech sounds like a phrasebook gone haywire. Others mangle the expressions themselves — saying "a slice of cake" or "raining dogs and cats" — and in doing so, draw attention to the very gap they hoped to hide.

The golden rule, then, is restraint. A native speaker does not reach for an idiom to impress; they use one because it fits, and then they move on. For the IELTS candidate, one or two natural idioms, dropped in at the right moment, will do far more good than a dozen forced ones. It is, at the end of the day, a question of quality over quantity.

So learn idioms — but learn them as a native does: by absorbing them from real speech, by noticing when and how they are used, and above all, by knowing when to leave them well alone. For in this corner of the language, less is very often more.

Topshiriq: Matndan 6 ta idiom toping (double-edged sword, worth their weight in gold, backfire, quality over quantity...). Qaysilari akademik Writing'da xavfsiz (mavhum), qaysilari faqat og'zaki?

10. Tipik xatolar (L1 transfer + idiom)

Xato Sababi To'g'risi
a slice of cake idiom buzilgan a piece of cake
raining dogs and cats tartib buzilgan raining cats and dogs
my heart fell o'zbekcha kalka my heart sank
once in a blue sky so'z almashtirilgan once in a blue moon
(akademik esse) The economy is in hot water noo'rin register The economy faces serious difficulties
He kicked a bucket (artikl) qat'iy shakl He kicked the bucket
3 idiom bir gapda over-use (sun'iy) bittasi, o'z joyida
break the ices (ko'plik) idiom o'zgartirilgan break the ice
make the ice (fe'l) noto'g'ri fe'l break the ice

Asosiy tuzoq (IELTS): (1) idiomni buzmang (so'z/tartib qat'iy); (2) o'zbekcha idiomni tarjima qilmang (inglizcha muqobilini o'rganing); (3) registerga moslang (akademik Writing idiom YO'Q yoki faqat mavhum); (4) over-use qilmang (1-2 tabiiy > ko'p majburiy); (5) idiom fe'li gapga moslashadi, lekin ibora o'zagi o'zgarmaydi.

11. Chuqur tahlil — qo'shimcha faktlar va nozikliklar (IELTS 9 fokusi)

C1 dan C2 ga ko'prik.

(a) IELTS Speaking band deskriptori — idiom aniq. Band 7: "uses some... idiomatic vocabulary... with some inappropriate choices." Band 8: "uses idiomatic vocabulary skilfully, with occasional inaccuracies." Band 9: "...fully flexible... idiomatic... natural." Ya'ni idiom band 7+ uchun kerak, lekin to'g'ri va tabiiy bo'lishi shart. Noo'rin idiom — band 6 ga tushiradi.

(b) "Natural and accurate" — ikki shart. Natural = mos joyda, majburlanmagan; accurate = buzilmagan, to'g'ri ma'no. Ikkalasi kerak. Band 9 nomzodi idiomni his qiladi (qachon mos), shunchaki yodlamaydi. Bu — boy input (film, podkast, suhbat) bilan keladi.

(c) Idiom va Writing Task 2 — nozik chegara. Ba'zi "idiom" aslida akademik ibora: "a double-edged sword", "a vicious circle", "strike a balance", "the bigger picture", "in the long run" — bular Writing'da OK (mavhum, neytral). Lekin "a piece of cake", "cost an arm and a leg" — og'zaki, Writing'da yo'q. Chegara: mavhum/baholovchi idiom Writing; jonli/kundalik Speaking.

(d) Metafora — barcha tilning asosi. Tilshunos Lakoff: inson tafakkuri metaforik ("time is money", "argument is war"). Ingliz tili shu metaforalar bilan to'la — "I see your point" (ko'rish=tushunish), "a warm welcome" (issiq=mehribon), "a bright future" (yorug'=yaxshi). Bu "o'lik" metaforalar — sezilmaydi, xavfsiz, har joyda. Ularni anglash — chuqur til hissi.

(e) Binomiallar — tartib qat'iy. "back and forth" (forth and back ), "safe and sound", "black and white", "now and then". Tartib muzlagan — almashtirsa g'alati. Bular ko'pincha alliteratsiya/ritm bilan ("wear and tear", "rough and ready") — shuning uchun tartib shunday. Native quloqqa ritm o'tirgan.

(f) Madaniy kelib chiqish — qiziqarli, esda qoladi. Ko'p idiom tarixiy: "break the ice" (kema muz sindirgani), "the ball is in your court" (tennis), "steal someone's thunder" (teatr), "bury the hatchet" (hind an'anasi). Kelib chiqishni bilish — idiomni esda saqlash va to'g'ri ishlatishga yordam beradi.

(g) Idiom yangilanadi — zamonaviy. Til o'zgaradi: yangi idiomlar ("ghosting", "throw shade", "spill the tea", "low-key/high-key") — zamonaviy/yoshlar tili. Eski idiomlar eskiriadi. Band 9 — zamonaviy va mos idiom (eskirgan klishe emas). Lekin IELTS'da xavfsiz, o'rnatilgan idiomlarni afzal ko'ring (slang xavfli).

(h) "Less is more" — band 9 strategiyasi. Examinerlar aytadi: nomzodlar idiomni haddan ko'p ishlatib, sun'iy eshitiladi. Eng yaxshi strategiya — butun Speaking davomida 2-4 ta mukammal, tabiiy idiom. Bittasi noto'g'ri ishlatilgandan ko'ra, ishlatilmagan yaxshiroq. Sifat > miqdor — bu band 9 maslahati.

(i) Idiomni "o'zlashtirish" usuli. Idiomni ro'yxatdan yodlamang — kontekstda o'rganing (film/serial/podkast). Yangi idiomni eshitsangiz: ma'nosini, registrini (rasmiy/og'zaki), va odatiy kontekstini qayd qiling. Keyin o'zingiz bir marta to'g'ri ishlating (faollashtirish). Passiv tanish faol ishlatish.

(j) Phrasal verb vs idiom. Phrasal verb (give up, look after) — idiomning bir turi (fe'l+zarra, ko'chma ma'no). Ular kundalik va rasmiy nutqda ham keng (idiomdan ko'ra xavfsizroq). Band 9 — phrasal verb va idiomni birga, tabiiy ishlatadi. Keyingi dars (C1-10) phrasal verbga bag'ishlanadi.

C2 ko'prik (IELTS 9native): idiom — tilning madaniy ruhi. C2/band 9 da siz idiomni his qilasiz — qachon mos, qaysi register, qanday tabiiy. Buzmaysiz, majburlamaysiz, eskirganini sezasiz. Bu faqat boy, haqiqiy input (film, kitob, native suhbat) bilan keladi — ro'yxat yodlash bilan emas. Idiom + kollokatsiya + nuance + register — Lexical Resource arsenali deyarli to'liq. "Less is more" — idiomda oltin qoida.

13. Amaliy topshiriq (Wisar AI bilan) — IELTS idiom mashqi

Maqsad: idiomni tabiiy, to'g'ri va mos registrda ishlatib, band 9 darajada gapirish (over-use va xatosiz).

Vazifa — IELTS rol o'yini (tanlang):

  • (A) IELTS Speaking Part 2/3: Men "cue card" beraman ("Describe a challenge you overcame / a goal you achieved / a person who influenced you"). Siz 5-6 gap gapirasiz — 2-4 ta tabiiy idiom bilan (har gapga tiqmasdan!).
  • (B) Idiom tuzatish/register: Men idiomlarga to'la (yoki buzilgan/noo'rin) matn beraman, siz xatolarni (buzilgan idiom, noo'rin register, over-use) tuzatasiz.

Quyidagilarni ishlating:

  1. 2-4 ta mos idiom (mavzuga oid — ish/his/qiyinchilik)
  2. To'g'ri shakl (buzilmagan — a piece of cake, not slice)
  3. Mos register (Speaking og'zaki OK; agar Writing so'rasam faqat mavhum idiom)
  4. Tabiiy joylashuv (majburlanmagan — 1 gapga 1 idiom max)
  5. Idiom + kollokatsiya/nuance birga (C1-7/8 bilan)

Masalan (A, "a challenge"): "Learning to drive was a steep learning curve for me. At first I was all over the place, and I nearly threw in the towel. But I decided to go the extra mile and practise daily. Eventually it became second nature. Honestly, passing my test was worth its weight in gold." (5 idiom, 5 gap — tabiiy)

"Tayyor" mezonlari (IELTS band 9): (1) 2-4 idiom (over-use emas); (2) buzilmagan (to'g'ri shakl); (3) mos register; (4) tabiiy (majburlanmagan); (5) to'g'ri ma'noda; (6) ravon ohang.
