1. Dars nomi, maqsad va motivatsiya

Tasavvur qiling: o'tmishda turibsiz va o'sha paytdan kelajakka qarayapsiz. "Men ertaga qo'ng'iroq qilmoqchi edim", "U kelaman degandi", "Ular tushlikda uchrashishlari kerak edi" — bularning hammasi o'tmishdagi nuqtadan turib kelajak haqida gapiradi. Bu — future in the past.

Bu mavzu o'zbeklar uchun ko'rinmaydi, lekin juda ko'p ishlatiladi: hikoyada, reported speech'da, va eng muhimi — bajarilmagan rejalar haqida gapirganda. "I was going to call you, but I forgot." (Qo'ng'iroq qilmoqchi edim, lekin unutdim.)

Real hayotda nega kerak:

• Bajarilmagan reja: "We were going to launch in May, but we delayed it."
• Reported speech: "He said he would help" (will would).
• Hikoya/dramatik: "She was about to give up when the phone rang."
• Rasmiy/taqdir: "He was to become the company's greatest CEO."

ASOSIY tushuncha — "nuqtai nazar" siljiydi. Oddiy kelajak HOZIRdan qaraydi: I will call. Future in the past O'TMISHdan qaraydi: I would call. Ya'ni: har bir hozirgi kelajak shaklining o'tmish "ko'zgu" shakli bor:

O'xshatish — kino flashback: film hozir ketyapti (hozirgi kelajak: will). Birdan flashback — biz o'tmishga qaytamiz va u yerdan "kelajak"ka qaraymiz. O'sha flashback ichida will would bo'ladi. Qahramon bilmaydi, lekin biz (tomoshabin) "u keyin nima qilishini" would bilan aytamiz.

2. Avvalgi darslardan takror (spiral)

• B2-3 (Future forms): will, going to, be about to, be to — bugun ularning o'tmish shakllari.
• B1-15/16 (Reported speech): will would — bugun chuqurroq asos.
• B2-2 (Narrative): hikoyada future in the past tabiiy chiqadi.
• Tez mashq: "He said: I will help" reported: He said he ___ help. (would).

3. Grammatika — chuqur, to'liq tushuntirish

3.1. was/were going to + V1 — o'tmishdagi reja (ko'pincha bajarilmagan)

I was going to call you, but I forgot.
(qo'ng'iroq qilmoqchi edim — lekin qilmadim)
We were going to travel, but the flight was cancelled.

Eng ko'p ma'no — BAJARILMAGAN reja. was going to ko'pincha "...lekin bo'lmadi/qilmadim" bilan keladi. Bu — armon/kechirim aytishning tabiiy yo'li.

Ba'zan shunchaki o'tmishdagi niyat (bajarilgan-bajarilmagani aytilmagan):

I knew it was going to be difficult. (qiyin bo'lishini bilardim)

3.2. would + V1 — o'tmishdan ko'rilgan kelajak

(a) Reported speech'da (will would):

"I will help."  He said he would help.
"It will rain."  They thought it would rain.

(b) Hikoyada — "keyin nima bo'lishini" (qahramon bilmaydi):

She left home that morning, not knowing she would never return.
(o'sha kuni chiqdi — qaytmasligini bilmay)

Diqqat — bu would o'tmish odat (B1-26) ham, conditional (B1-10) ham EMAS. Bu — "o'tmishdan kelajak". Kontekst farqlaydi:

• Every summer we would go to the sea. (o'tmish odat)
• If I were rich, I would travel. (conditional)
• He promised he would come. (future in the past) bugungi mavzu

3.3. was/were to + V1 — taqdir/belgilangan (rasmiy, adabiy)

(a) Belgilangan/kelishilgan (rasmiy):

The two leaders were to meet at noon. (tushlikda uchrashishlari kerak edi)

(b) Taqdir — "keyin shunday bo'ldi" (tarixiy/adabiy):

He was born in a small village, but he was to become a great scientist.
(keyinchalik buyuk olim bo'ldi — taqdir shunday edi)

3.4. was/were to have + V3 — belgilangan, lekin bajarilmagan

We were to have met yesterday, but she cancelled.
(kecha uchrashishimiz kerak edi — lekin u bekor qildi)

Bu — "rejalashtirilgan edi, lekin amalga oshmadi" ni rasmiy aytish.

3.5. was/were about to + V1 — shu zahoti bo'layotgan edi

I was about to leave when the phone rang.
(chiqmoqchi edim — aynan shunda telefon jiringladi)

Hikoyada keskinlik/burilish uchun juda foydali: "aynan shu payt...".

3.6. was/were on the point/verge of + V-ing — arafasida edi

She was on the verge of tears. (yig'lash arafasida edi)
The company was on the point of collapse. (qulash arafasida edi)

4. Native nozikliklari va qo'shimcha qoidalar

• was going to vs would — was going to "rejam/niyatim bor edi"; would ko'proq reported speech va bashoratda. I thought it would rain (bashorat) vs I was going to bring an umbrella (niyat).
• was to ikki ma'no: (1) rasmiy reja (were to meet); (2) taqdir (was to become). Kontekst ajratadi.
• Past Continuous = o'tmishdagi kelishilgan reja: I was meeting him the next day (kelishilgan edi) — Present Continuous'ning o'tmish ko'zgusi.
• "would later" — adabiy: He would later regret that decision. (keyinchalik afsuslanadi — o'tmishdan kelajak).
• was just about to — "aynan endi qilmoqchi edim" (ta'kid): I was just about to call you!
• would go on to + V1 — biografiya/hikoyada juda ko'p ishlatiladigan kollokatsiya: "keyinchalik (borib) ...qildi". He would go on to win three Olympic medals. (keyinchalik uch Olimpiada medalini yutdi). IELTS Speaking Part 2 va yozma hikoyada shaxs yo'lini bayon qilishda kuchli vosita.
• "not know that ... would" — dramatik konstruksiya: qahramon o'sha paytda natijani bilmagani ta'kidlanadi. She had no idea that this decision would change everything. (Little did she know ... bilan bir xil ma'no, lekin tabiiyroq.)

5. Ko'p misollar

1. I was going to apologise, but he left before I could. (niyat — bajarilmadi)
2. She said the package would arrive on Monday. (reported: willwould)
3. The ceremony was to begin at noon. (belgilangan, rasmiy)
4. He was about to sign the contract when his phone rang. (shu zahoti)
5. They were on the verge of giving up. (arafasida)
6. Years later, that small idea would change the whole industry. (taqdir/kelajak)
7. We were to have flown to Rome, but the strike cancelled everything. (reja — bajarilmadi)

6. Holat/case yechimlari

1. "Sizga qo'ng'iroq qilmoqchi edim, lekin unutdim."

• I was going to call you, but I forgot.
• Nega: o'tmishdagi reja, bajarilmagan was going to.

2. "U kelaman degandi." (reported)

• He said he would come.
• Nega: to'g'ri nutq "I will come" reported'da will would.

3. "Chiqmoqchi edim, aynan shunda yomg'ir boshlandi."

• I was about to leave when it started to rain.
• Nega: shu zahoti bo'layotgan harakat was about to + hikoya burilishi.

4. "Yig'ilish tushda boshlanishi kerak edi."

• The meeting was to start at noon. / ...was going to start at noon.
• Nega: belgilangan reja was to (rasmiy) yoki was going to.

5. "U kambag'al tug'ilgan, lekin keyin millioner bo'lgan."

• He was born poor, but he was to become a millionaire.
• Nega: taqdir — "keyinchalik shunday bo'ldi" was to + adabiy ohang.

6. Farqni ko'ring — uchta "would":

• We would swim every day. (o'tmish odat)
• I would help if I could. (conditional)
• She knew he would succeed. (future in the past) bugungi.

7. Kengaytirilgan lug'at + kollokatsiya

Tayyor iboralar:

• I was going to..., but... — ... moqchi edim, lekin ...
• Little did I know that I would... — Bilmasdim-ki, men ...
• As it turned out, things would... — Ma'lum bo'lishicha, ...
• He was destined to... — U ...ga belgilangan edi.

8. Dialog

A: So how did the startup actually begin? B: Funny story. I was going to become an accountant — I'd even accepted a job. A: Really? What changed? B: Well, the week I was to start, a friend showed me his app idea. I was about to say no, but something stopped me. A: And the rest is history. B: Pretty much. I had no idea that one conversation would change my entire life. We were on the verge of giving up so many times — but we didn't. A: Any regrets? B: None. The accounting job? They were to have trained me for two years. As it turned out, I trained myself in something far better.

Tahlil: was going to become (reja — o'zgardi), was to start (belgilangan), was about to say (shu zahoti), would change (o'tmishdan kelajak — bilmasdi), were on the verge of (arafa), were to have trained (reja — bajarilmadi). Butun future-in-the-past tizimi.

9. O'qish — graded matn

The letter that changed everything

On an ordinary Tuesday, Maria checked her post, not knowing that her life was about to change. She was going to throw away the official-looking envelope — it looked like another bill. But something made her open it.

Inside was a letter from a university she had applied to months earlier and forgotten about. She was to be offered a full scholarship. The girl who had almost given up on education would, within five years, become a respected researcher.

Years later, with hindsight, she often said that she had been on the verge of throwing away her own future. As it turned out, the smallest decision — to open one envelope — would shape everything that followed.
